'Untitled 2020'
Stemming and growing from 'Untitled 2019', Untitled 2020 is also about the process of becoming, through connection to nature. The process of making encourages returning to self and becoming. Becoming being defined as an ongoing process of alleviating stigma of the past from self and moving towards an honest truth in self, acknowledging the dark to move beyond it, challenging the body to really belong to it, immersing in nature to deepen connection to it. Informed by personal concerns to articulate identity, need to create, and belong and connect to the earth, sea and cosmos. To find truth in self after being lost; in place, in relationships, in my mind, in drugs and alcohol and the past.
The work involves charcoal and oil paint drawn imagery on two raw canvases, paper bark has also been used on the canvas, merging into contours of landscapes. An adjacent wall delivers charcoal written words of self reflection and then another adjacent wall behind the text delivers a site specific performance video; Matilda at a nude beach, climbing a cliff to then jump from it. The floor is lain with shells, glass and wood spatially bringing all elements together.
